The story

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer

Walter Muto (Milan, 1965) is an Italian singer-songwriter, guitarist, arranger and composer. He studied Modern Literature at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, holds a lower diploma in classical guitar, and studied composition with Sandro Gorli at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan.

He has been performing since the mid-1980s: forty years across stage, studio and song-theatre.

Teaching

He taught modern guitar at Milan’s Centro Professione Musica, where he also worked on the school’s special projects, and later managed the office of the Accademia Internazionale della Musica at the Scuole Civiche di Milano.

Studio & arrangement

As an arranger and producer he has worked on some twenty records, with Carlo Pastori, Alberto Villa, Paolo Amelio, the John Stanson Band and others.

Orchestra & television

Between 2000 and 2002 he played guitar in television orchestras for Mediaset, under musical directors Vince Tempera, Valeriano Chiaravalle and Lucio Fabbri.

Song-theatre

P&M — Pastori & Muto

With Carlo Pastori he has formed the duo P&M for over thirty years; together they released the album Parole & Musica and tour song-theatre productions, including Giovanni: un bosco di duecento anni on the life of St John Bosco, performed around sixty times.

His own solo show is Cast Away — 20 songs I’d save from the shipwreck.

He has appeared at ten editions of the Meeting di Rimini between 2004 and 2017.

Since 2013 he has been a regular guest and music expert on Juke Box 900 for Rete Due, Swiss Italian Radio.

Books

He is the author of Guareschi. L’umorismo e la speranza (Marietti 1820) and a contributor to Help! Il grido del rock, Cosa sarà and Amazing Grace (Itaca).

Since 2024 he has published Una canzone al giorno, a daily one-minute music story across his social channels.
